Introduction to Estonian and Mexican Board Games

Have you ever wondered how board games reflect the culture and traditions of different nations? Come and discover the fascinating world of Estonian and Mexican board games at Haapsalu Town Hall, where you can explore beloved games, hear the stories behind them and try different games yourself.
On Saturday, June 20, from 12.00 to 15.30, Haapsalu Town Hall welcomes everyone who would like to spend an enjoyable day playing games, meeting new people and discovering different cultures.
Board game author Meelis Looveer and Anni Oja together with her family invite visitors to discover Estonian and Mexican gaming traditions and try traditional board games themselves.
There will also be a chance to try historical board games displayed at the Haapsalu Town Hall exhibition “City of Broken Crutches”, including games that were popular nearly one hundred years ago.

12.00–12.20
Meelis Looveer and Anni Oja and her family introduce themselves and share their connection with board games.
12.20–13.30
Meelis Looveer introduces board games loved by Estonians.
13.30–14.30
Anni Oja and her family introduce traditional Mexican board games.
14.30–15.30
Opportunity to try the games introduced during the day as well as historical board games from the Haapsalu Town Hall exhibition “City of Broken Crutches”.
The official programme ends at 15.30. Haapsalu Town Hall and the exhibition “City of Broken Crutches” remain open until 18.00 and visitors are welcome to explore the exhibition after the programme has ended.

Participation is free of charge, but the organisers kindly ask participants to register in advance to estimate the number of visitors.
