Ukrainian Cooking Masterclass: Varenyky Workshop in Haapsalu

We invite you to participate in the second Ukrainian Cuisine Masterclass in Haapsalu, where we will learn to make traditional cherry and potato varenyky. This practical class is part of our cooking series. This is a true hands-on experience where traditions, sweet and savory flavors, and great company come together.

Why are varenyky important?

Varenyky hold a special place in Ukrainian culture. They symbolise abundance and family traditions. While potato-filled varenyky are a classic and nourishing main course, the cherry-filled version is a true symbol of Ukrainian summer. People often enjoy them as a dessert with fresh sour cream.

In this workshop, you will learn the secrets of the perfect dough (so it stays soft but doesn’t break!). We will also show you different folding techniques. These methods turn every varenyk into a small work of art.

• Where: Jüriöö st 7, Haapsalu

Important information for participants

We want to enrich the Haapsalu community through shared heritage. Our motto is: “Let’s learn to tell stories in Estonian”.

• Bring an apron: Making varenyky and flour go hand in hand. An apron is your best friend!
• Bring a container: We will make plenty of food. Take some varenyky home with you!
• Language practice: We cook and communicate in Estonian, supporting each other and learning new words in a relaxed atmosphere.

The aim of the project is to provide effective integration and adaptation services for new immigrants aged 18 and over, people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and returnees, supporting community cohesion and mutual understanding.
