Café of Encounters – Stories from the World: Turkey

Integration and Adaptation Support in Haapsalu organizes on October 14 2025 the third evening in the Café of Encounters series. This cultural program presents Haapsalu’s diverse community through the stories and traditions of their homelands. It is a unique cultural event in Haapsalu that brings together stories and flavors from around the world. This time the encounter takes us to Turkey, where Ramazan will share stories about his homeland.
Turkey is often associated only with Istanbul and Antalya. Yet the country is much more diverse: it has 81 cities, a rich history, and a distinctive culinary culture. We will explore common stereotypes and see how they compare with reality.
Ramazan will share stories from his hometown Diyarbakir, known for its gastronomy and authentic Turkish cuisine. He will also talk about the legacy of the Ottoman Empire. Other topics include everyday life in Turkey and how cultural perceptions have developed.
Participants will be treated to authentic Turkish coffee, tea, lokum and perhaps even baklava.

The evening will be held in English and translated into Russian.
We welcome you to the third Café of Encounters evening at Nurme Bistroo on October 14 2025, starting at 16:00.
