Café of Encounters – Stories from the World: The Netherlands

What do tulips, windmills and canals have in common? The Netherlands and that’s where our next Café of Encounters takes us.
Integration and Adaptation Support in Haapsalu invites you to the second evening of the Café of Encounters series on 30 September 2025. This is a series of conversation evenings where stories of different countries and cultures come together in Haapsalu. This time the encounter takes us to the Netherlands, where Dutchman Cees Witkamp will talk about his homeland.
In his own words, our second guest Cees Witkamp invites you to the evening:
“I guess everybody knows a little bit about Holland, or better: The Netherlands. The bulb fields, windmills, Rotterdam harbour, Amsterdam canals and much more is well known. But, how much do we know about the people living there: The Dutch? Do we know how they are, what they like to eat, why they are living below the sea level etc? I guess not. On this evening I will try to tell you a little bit more about The Dutch.”
Cees Witkamp, who lives in Estonia, will share stories from his homeland and help us better understand the Dutch and life in the Netherlands.

The evening will be held in English and translated into Russian.
Join us at Nurme Bistroo on 30 September 2025 starting at 16:00.
Already curious? Cees suggests you listen to the humorous song British Tourist by John Dowie.
We look forward to seeing you at our second Café of Encounters evening.
Come and discover the Netherlands with us!
